AKT
AKT began backstage in London’s West End, where performers Ed Currie and Andy Coxon met in 2015 while working eight-show weeks under hot lights and heavy costumes. Existing deodorants simply weren’t up to it, so they started experimenting in their Camden kitchen, spending three years refining a formula with fragrance and cosmetic specialists before launching AKT in 2020. Before going public, they handed samples to fellow West End performers, which is about as unforgiving a test group as deodorant could reasonably face.
What really sets AKT apart are their cleaner, more natural formulas, using less of the conventional nasties for a healthier approach to deodorant. The brand uses plant and mineral-based ingredients while leaving out aluminium salts, alcohol, talc and phthalates, relying instead on ingredients that absorb moisture and tackle odour without blocking the sweat glands. The Deodorant Balm is the hero, backed by a wider range that follows the same cleaner, considered approach. Add packaging that looks good enough to leave out, and these guys have made natural deodorant feel modern and grown-up, while still passing the only test that really matters: it works.
