VEARK

Veark was founded in 2019 by two friends (one German, one Danish), with the intention of creating sustainable, honest, high-quality kitchen tools. The brand's name is derived from a mix of German and Danish words for "work" to convey their desire to create practical "works of art." Although headquartered in Copenhagen, their knives are made in the world-renowned German knife-forging town of Solingen. "The City of Blades" is so famous for knife-making that it carries a geographical trademark, with brands only able to use its name if they meet strict provenance/quality standards (as with Champagne, Tequila or Kobe beef). With such solid German engineering expertise behind them, it's unsurprising Veark's products have gained such industry appreciation.

As for the Danish side of the equation, their items are achingly design-forward, with clear value placed on stripped back aestheticism. Nothing they produce needs tidying away; it can all be left out for the jealous inquiries of gawking visitors. Their viral drop-forged knives are their flagship products, made from a single piece of steel that's pressed, sanded, hardened and sharpened by expert craftsman. As well as making them stronger and easier to clean, this jointless approach makes them handsome and unique. In fact, the forging process leaves a different texture on each handle, so every one really is a complete one-off. This obsession with novel design and top-notch production methods extends throughout their whole range, perhaps why GQ love them and Dezeen shortlisted them in 2019. Like us, they obviously think Veark are worth talking about.
