THE DETAIL

This piece forms part of the Convicts of the Road series, created in reference to a famous quote captured by journalist Albert Londres in 1924. Frenchman Londres followed le Tour that year and was struck by the similarity of the riders to the subjects of his previous report - the convicts in France’s brutal penal colonies. Overcome by sympathy for the riders and awed by their courage he wrote ‘truly these are the convicts of the road’.

The inks and printing process employed here results in incredibly rich, bold colours that can only be fully appreciated in person. Likewise, the detail and resolution needs to be seen to be believed; the linework is excellent and the rider is crisp and clear, even when taking up such a small part of the canvas. The artwork is custom-printed and hand-trimmed to ensure the finish is as perfect as the graphic itself.
