Experts Say

It has breathtaking photography, captivating narratives, and explores diverse landscapes and cultures...the book celebrates adventure, discovery, and the transformative power of travel - Expedition Portal

Why It Made The List

An inspirational look at the culture of life lived on four wheels, told through the lens of an extended road trip in a converted truck, winding its way through some of the most striking landscapes on the planet. It charts a multi-year journey that loops across Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, Indonesia, Australia, North America and more, with big, cinematic photography doing most of the talking. The appeal is less about van builds and gear, more about what long, open-ended travel actually looks and feels like when you commit to it. If you like the idea of slow movement across continents, big skies and a life shaped by the road, it is a very easy book to sink into.

MORE DETAIL

A large format travel book that follows a single converted truck on a long, looping journey around the world.

Edited by Gestalten with photographer Leander Nardin and writer Maria Zehentner, it chronicles an extended road trip that winds through Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, Indonesia, Australia, North America and beyond.

The focus is on the experience of slow travel; long stretches of road, improvised camps, remote viewpoints and the small routines that build up when your home moves with you from landscape to landscape.

Photography is central, with wide scenes of deserts, mountains and coastlines alongside more intimate shots of the truck, its interior and the people met along the way.

Short texts give context to each stage of the journey and to the partnership behind it.

Printed in full colour on FSC certified paper, the book is stitch bound in a hardcover format, runs to 256 pages and measures 22.5 × 29 cm.

Reflective, visually rich and quietly inspiring, it offers a detailed look at what life on the road really feels like when the journey becomes a way of living rather than a short escape.
