Why It Made The List

Step into the world of perfect tailoring on London’s most famous street with this truly fascinating book, which elegantly reveals how bespoke suits are made at their finest. It guides you through over two centuries of Savile Row heritage, showing how master cutters, cloth mills and even button makers all come together to craft one piece of clothing after another. Written by Patrick Grant, one of the Row’s own, it includes a step-by-step manual for creating a coat, waistcoat, trousers — even a shirt — in traditional Savile Row style. The design is rich, the insight rare, and the story of craftsmanship here feels quietly remarkable. If you’re interested in menswear, design or where tradition meets craft, this is a book you’ll keep returning to.

MORE DETAIL

A richly illustrated hardcover book that brings the world of Savile Row tailoring into view, written by Patrick Grant and co edited with Gestalten.

Patrick Grant is one of the most recognisable figures in modern British menswear. He took over the historic Savile Row tailor Norton and Sons in 2005, later revived the heritage brand E Tautz, and has spent his career championing traditional craft, British manufacturing and responsible production. He is also known for judging The Great British Sewing Bee, where his approach to design and making is rooted in precision, respect for materials and an understanding of how garments are built.

The book explores more than two hundred years of craftsmanship on the famed London street and shows how hand made suits have been created for royals, rock stars and business leaders.

Grant describes the ecosystem of Savile Row. He explains the mills, trimming houses, tailors and cutters that together sustain the tradition of bespoke menswear.

The book documents the full process of making a suit on Savile Row. It includes a coat, waistcoat, trousers and a shirt in the style of a distinguished Jermyn Street maker. The craft is broken down through step by step manuals and detailed photography.

Printed in full colour, the book measures 22 × 29 cm and has 176 pages bound in a linen cover. It is produced on FSC certified paper which reflects the publisher’s care for materials and sustainability.

Clear, informative and beautifully produced, it offers both an insider’s guide and a visual tribute to one of the most respected tailoring traditions in the world.
