Why It Made The List

Handsomely compact and built for precision, this five-pronged, forged steel rake is ideal for pots, beds, and borders. The bulletproof head breaks up soil and clears debris with ease, while the 300 mm FSC-certified ash handle offers a balanced, comfortable grip. A water-based, anti-slip coating adds additional control and durability. MORE DETAIL

Adler's Hand Rake feels right the moment you pick it up. If you're working in raised beds, planters, or tight spots where precision matters, this rake delivers the kind of control and feedback you want in hand.

The head is hand-forged from C45 carbon steel—solid, sharp, and made to take a beating.

The five tines have just enough flex and bite to break up compacted soil and sweep out debris without damaging roots or surrounding plants.

The prongs are nicely shaped too, making them more effective at getting into the surface layer without needing a lot of pressure.

Its 300mm handle, made from FSC-certified European ash, is short enough to keep you close to the work but long enough to give you decent leverage.

The natural anti-slip coating gives a good, confident grip even when your hands are wet or muddy. It’s clearly built for practical use, not just looks.

The whole thing weighs in at about 350g, so it feels balanced—light enough to use for long sessions, but heavy enough to feel like a real tool. The forged connection between head and handle is solid, with no looseness or play, which is key if you’re going to be using it regularly.

This isn’t a mass-produced piece of kit—it’s handmade in Germany by a company that’s been doing this for over a century.

You can see that heritage in the build quality and finish. It’s a proper, no-nonsense tool that does exactly what it should, and does it well.
