Experts Say

For over 100 years, Adler has been crafting some of the best and most respected tools in the world - Gear Patrol

Why It Made The List

From the mythical forests of Southern Germany, Adler have made industry-leading axes for over a century. This classic Canoe version sports the traditional Rheinland shape, with flared carbon steel head and American hickory handle. Black anti-slip paint and a handsome red collar help them stand out, while a premium leather sheath protects their edge and ensures they'll last decades.

MORE DETAIL

Adler are a German toolmaker of international renown, making handsome, hard-working outdoor gear for over 100 years.

Forged in the traditional shape of its Rhineland birthplace, this best-selling Adler canoe axe sports a wide, flared beard (the sharp bit) offering a longer, larger cutting surface for less weight. The back of the head has a heavy poll (or butt) that works particularly well for hammering (tent pegs, shelter building etc) and Adler guarantee all metal parts for life.

The handle is American Hickory, (stronger than European Ash) and feels incredibly comfortable, in part due to the enlarged palm swell, which keeps the axe from slipping out of your hand during use.

Textured anti-slip paint has been applied to add grip and aesthetic contrast, whilst that signature red stripe helps it stand out from the cheaper, blander crowd.

Longer than a hatchet, but shorter than a full felling/splitting axe, its compact length makes it ideal for camping, hiking, hunting or fishing. With a relatively heavy head, they're great for splitting smaller logs, making kindling or felling branches. They're also great to have at home for those with a fireplace.
