The Pathfinder is a compact, purpose built hatchet from Helko Werk that brings traditional European axe making into a form that feels naturally at home with campers, backpackers and anyone managing wood at home.

The head is forged by hand from C50 high grade carbon steel, oil quenched and tempered to a hardness of roughly 51–56 HRC, then ground and polished to a mirror finish that reduces cutting friction and helps resist rust.

With a blade edge of around 8.3 cm and a head weight of 560 g, it offers enough bite for real work without feeling overbearing, and the total weight of about 900 g keeps it easy to carry and swing over longer sessions.

The handle is carved from Grade A American hickory, chosen for straight grain and strength, then sanded smooth and finished with linseed oil for a natural, grippy feel in the hand.

Fixed with a wooden wedge and steel ring wedge, the 38 cm handle length gives a confident mix of control and power for close work or small splitting jobs.

This balance of forged head, secure attachment and ergonomic hickory makes the Pathfinder well suited to chopping firewood, splitting kindling, limbing branches and general camp or garden tasks.

It is supplied with a premium cowhide leather sheath that protects the edge in storage or travel and adds a traditional touch to the overall package.

Founded in 1844, Helko Werk has a long history of German axe making, and the Pathfinder sits squarely in that Classic line, pairing mirror polished steel and honest materials with a practical, hard working shape.
